Saypane vs WhisperTyping: Windows dictation compared
WhisperTyping is a dictation app made only for Windows 10 and 11, like Saypane. It positions itself as a modern alternative to Dragon, with plans for professionals, lawyers and doctors. The main difference: WhisperTyping recognizes speech in the cloud, Saypane on your PC. This page uses WhisperTyping's own website, pricing and privacy pages.

Where your voice goes
WhisperTyping's privacy page says audio is routed to cloud speech-to-text providers under zero data retention, and that text sent to its AI features goes to OpenAI, which keeps it for up to 30 days. Its screen OCR feature sends text from the active window to its servers to pick out keywords. A local transcription server is offered to business customers. Saypane runs the speech model on your PC for everyone, so dictation works offline and nothing is sent.
Price
WhisperTyping is a subscription, billed yearly, from $5 a month for unlimited minutes. Saypane dictation is free and unlimited, and Pro, which adds the transcription workbench, is a single purchase.
What WhisperTyping does better
- Spoken punctuation and emojis, which many former Dragon users expect.
- AI modes for rewriting, translating and answering questions by voice.
- Plans for medical use, including a HIPAA-compliant Medical tier.
- Extras such as templates and using your phone as a wireless microphone.
Which one to choose
- Choose WhisperTyping if you want spoken punctuation or AI modes and are fine with cloud processing and a subscription.
- Choose Saypane if your words must stay on the PC, you need dictation offline, or you also transcribe recordings, without a subscription.
