Saypane vs Wispr Flow: an offline alternative for Windows
Wispr Flow is the dictation app most people hear about first: hold a key, talk, and polished text appears in any app. Saypane does the same basic job on Windows, but recognizes speech on your PC instead of in the cloud. This page compares them using Wispr Flow's own website.
| Saypane | Wispr Flow | |
|---|---|---|
| Where speech is processed | On your PC | In the cloud; its website does not describe an offline mode |
| Free version | Unlimited dictation | 2,000 words a week on desktop; "limited" on mobile |
| Paid | Saypane Pro, one-time in-app purchase | Pro $15 per user a month, $12 billed yearly; Growth $23, or $18 billed yearly |
| AI editing | No: you get what you said, with punctuation | Yes: removes filler words, fixes mistakes, adjusts tone per app |
| Platforms | Windows 10 and 11 | Mac, Windows, iOS, Android |
| Recordings and meetings | File transcription and meeting recording with speaker labels (Pro) | Notetaker meeting notes |
Offline and privacy
Wispr Flow sends your speech to its servers to turn it into text. Its store description says data is discarded the moment it is processed, and it advertises compliance programs for businesses (SOC 2, HIPAA). Saypane takes a different route: the speech model runs on your PC, so there is nothing to send. It works on a plane, behind a strict firewall and on a work laptop where cloud tools are blocked.
The word limit
Wispr Flow's free desktop plan stops at 2,000 words a week. People who dictate all day pass that on the first day. Saypane has no word count, because there is no cloud bill to cover. Dictation stays free.
What Wispr Flow does better
- AI editing. It turns rambling speech into tidy text and adapts the tone to the app. Saypane writes down what you said.
- Every platform. Mac, iPhone and Android apps that share your settings. Saypane is Windows only.
- Team features and compliance paperwork for companies.
Which one to choose
- Choose Wispr Flow if you want AI to polish your words, use a Mac or phone as well, and are fine with the cloud and a subscription.
- Choose Saypane if you are on Windows and want dictation that works offline, keeps your words on your PC, and has no weekly limit or subscription.

Questions
Does Wispr Flow work offline?
Its website does not describe an offline mode; Wispr Flow processes speech in the cloud. If you need dictation without internet on Windows, an app that runs the model locally, such as Saypane, works offline.
Is there a free Wispr Flow alternative for Windows without a word limit?
Yes. Saypane dictation is free with no word or time limit and runs on your PC. It does not do AI rewriting.
